Today I was reading an article on the Washington Post about how the FTC has set endorsement rules for blogs. The article goes on to talk about what these rules are. Here is how the story goes and the guidelines we have to follow now.
From now on, bloggers are supposed to disclose to their readers/consumers if they are getting any compensation for doing a review of a certain product. If bloggers do not follow this new rule, they are subject to an $11,000 penalty per violation. For instance, if I do a review on a certain program and I am getting any compensation for doing this, I have to disclose it to my readers.

That seems like a little too much money for such a non-serious fine.
I mean one slip up in not saying or writing the fact that you are getting a compensation, and it costs you $11,000. That seems a bit steep. I hope you don’t make this mistake, DJ.

@Elliot,
I agree that $11,000 is a little overkill. It’s just another way for the MAN to try and regulate everything. I will definetely disclose any compensation that I get to do a review on a product. I think they need to make a better outline available to every blogger.
Yea dude thats like way to much but i guess its good to know who blogs for money and who blogs for fun.
I kind of have mixed feeling about the whole situation I guess. I have not gotten paid by anyone to do any reviews on this blog (I am not saying that I don’t want to get paid). I think that some bloggers will write up a review on something and not have actually used the product themselves. If you are going to review something you should have used the product (IMO).
It is interesting to look how it will influence the online marketing.

I think it has the potential to change the whole online marketing scheme.
