How many of you become anxious when driving somewhere you have never been? If you have don’t be embarrassed because I do too. When I was in high school, I hated driving, because I was so anxious and panicked about being in traffic when I didn’t exactly know where I was going. Once I made it through school and college I went out, of course, and found myself a job where I drive all the time and never know where it will take me. One emergency call at 3:00 am could take me anywhere. I should also mention that I am, as I like to call it, directionally challenged. Ok Ok…it’s a fancy way of saying I have no sense of direction and could get lost down the road if I got turned around enough. I purchased a GPS system to help me find where I need to go at any given moment. It has saved my A$$ more times than I can count and guess what…no more anxiety! Once my navigation system is on and has plotted out where I am going all the anxiety disappears and I didn’t even have to take a nifty little pill…imagine that!
Let’s say that you are one of the lucky few that can find there way anywhere, with no problem, and remember it forever. There are still other benefits to having the handy little device. It can tell you where the nearest bathrooms, gas stations, restaurants, hotels, parks, museums, tourist attractions, etc. are located near you. The GPS makes taking road trips with your loved ones fabulous. There is no fear of getting lost and when the kids are in the back screaming, “I have to pee!†you simply tap on the screen a few times and voila, “You can pee at the Speedway in 3.75 miles!â€Â I am sure you are all familiar with the phrase, “Are we there yet? Are we there yet?â€Â You take a quick glance at the screen, “We will be there in 4 hours and 29 minutes.â€Â It is such a beautiful thing! I love the certainty of knowing where I am and if I choose to go be adventurous and get lost, literally, at least I know that my way home is just a touch away.
They are no longer a luxury device, are quite affordable, and believe me they pay for themselves over time. I personally have a Tom Tom, but I hear that Garmin’s are good too. It small and convenient to move from one car to the next if need be. At some point in your life you can’t call your father and tell him your lost and to tell you how the hell to get home. You have to put on your big girl panties and do it on your own…ok maybe not all on your own. GPS to the rescue!

Yes GPS’s are helpful but just remember, ” If man kind rely’s to much on technology and it fails us in the future we wont have a plan B”. So I try remembering roads. :)
@ Nick
If could remember road names I wouldn’t need my GPS so badly. I may know exactly where it is and then completely forget. Do you ever do that?
I don’t really use mine for street navigation, unless I go out of town somewhere. I mostly use mine for “Geocaching”.
Dee does a lot of traveling for her job. It can be useful at times but her GPS has been known to get me turned around.
@Dee
