Did your computer ever get to the point where it was slower than a snail? I recently cleaned up a computer at work that was this way. As soon as Windows started, the computer just froze. I was not able to work in regular mode so I had to go in safe mode to fix the issue. In order to keep your computer running smooth there is a few things that you could do.
Delete Temp Files
Deleting temporary files on your computer will keep your computer running fast and give you added hard drive space. Another good reason to delete temporary files is the risk of getting your personal information stolen. Every time you surf the web your computer stores information to speed up different tasks you perform. Information is stored when you visit a web page, order something, check email, or do online banking. If a Trojan, virus, infected website, or hacker notices this on your PC you private information can be stolen.  It is good to get in the habit of deleting the temporary files from your computer.
Disk Defrag
When you open files and folders on your computer’s hard drive, these files are fragmented or broken down. Due to these files becoming fragmented, your computer can start running slow, or you could start experiencing process errors. When you defrag your computer, the files that were broken down and split up are reorganized back to similar data. In turn, this will add space to your hard drive so you can save more files.
Clean the Computers Registry
Keeping your registry clean is important to keep your computer healthy. Every time you uninstall a program, it leaves invalid registry entries behind. Over time, you may start seeing a lack of performance, windows errors, and computer crashing.
Windows has a built in temporary file cleaner and defragging program, which I rarely use. I prefer to use a couple of free tools instead of the Windows built in programs.
CCleaner is a free tool that cleans out the temporary files on a computer, deletes invalid registry entries, uninstalls programs, and can control what items are started on the computer. This is a good program to have on a computer for the reasons stated. CCleaner will do what the Windows disk cleaner does but in a fraction of the time.
Advanced System Care does the same thing CCleaner does but has more options. Advanced System Care has a built in spyware detector and a defragment add-on as well. The program also has an all-in-one secure, repair, clean, and optimize feature. Here is a comparison chart to show more details:
As you can see, Advanced System Care is one of the top free programs available. In my opinion, it is better than most of the paid products too. Running these programs, every couple of weeks should keep your PC running healthy. It is important to take care of your computers health because computers can get pricey.
