Intel introduces 3D Xpoint memory with 1000 times quicker speed
Intel and Micron have partnered to develop a new data storage technology, accordingly, this technology will give greater storage capacity and much faster speed than other storage devices today.
This storage devices are called 3D XPOINT, a form of non-volatile memory (volatile memory like hard drives and memory cards). According to Intel, data reading and writing speed of this device are 1,000 times faster than current SSD drives and flash memory cards.
This new technology, rather than use the transistors, will put the data bits from low impedance to high impedance state, instead. From there, the memory cell will store these bits of data in an alternating pattern and arrange into complex 3D layer.
That’s the reason why this technology can allow to store bits of data 10 times denser than conventional memory. It helps to store more data in memory which have smaller size.
3D XPOINT is necessary solution when we need to handle and store more data. Intel said that the application of this new technology is enormous, not only used in large data centers, but it also can be used by individuals with the PC or mobile device.
