Everyone already knows that DJ and I have three dogs and two cats and they do some odd things, but this season has been a pain in the A$$. I am not sure if any of you are pet lovers or have your own at home and have experienced our problem. Our hairy little children infested our home with fleas…yes, fleas! We found out that our dog Lady, the one stuck under the gate, is severely allergic to fleas. Go figure! I have not been able to turn on the radio this Fall without hearing about ideas to get rid of the extreme flea infestations this year.
Well, we have done a ton of different things. We bombed our home twice and bought many things to try directly on the dogs. I can say that for us flea collars, flea baths, and prescribed treatments did not work at all. Finally, this weekend we tried something different that did not cost of us hundreds of dollars. We bought Borax, a laundry booster. Boric acid is in Borax and it appears to literally “suck” moisture out of fleas and flea eggs. We shook Borax all over the carpets Friday and left it there until yesterday afternoon. Yes, it was a pain, and I had to wear flip-flops in the house all weekend. Yesterday we vacuumed the carpets and I must say; it was disgusting. I will never be able to lie on our carpets again. The Borax did kill all the fleas and eggs and we could visible see them once we swept the carpets.
I cannot help but think how creepy it is that these parasites created a metropolis in our home even though we tried repeatedly to kill them. We are now “flea free” and all it took was something that you find next to Bleach in the store, Borax. Therefore, if you happen to have or might have the problem we did; do not go out and spend hundreds of dollars…just grab the “detergent like product” and “clean up”.

A Downside to Several Pets

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009If you look hard, you can find anything on the net at a bargain price. A few places that come to mind are eBay and Overstock. I have been to a few sites that are at times, better than eBay. There is nothing like finding an item at discount price and then selling it to make a little profit. I made a little cash by purchasing a few things online then listing them on Craigslist at a decent profit and sold a few items. The biggest hit that I made was purchasing a 32 degrees watch for $105, then I sold it on Craigslist for $300. This may not always be the case but I have sold a few items this way. I also see many oil paintings being bought at a huge discounted price and listed on online art galleries. That being said, here is a list of sites that you can by items cheap and maybe sell them for a profit.
Bidray is a penny auction site that I am relatively new to but see items purchased at a phenomenal discount. As I write this, a person bought an Esus Netbook retailed at $389.99 for $4.06. There are many electronics such as plasma TV’s, surround equipment, PS3’s and many others. I also saw vouchers to Best Buy and Amazon. Here is how it works. You register for an account and you get three free bids. If you want more bids, you have to purchase them. They have different pricing packages.
| BID PRICES (Special!) | |
| 2 Text Message Bids | *Free! |
| 20 Bids | $19.75 |
| 50 Bids (+5 Bonus) | $49.75 |
| 100 Bids (+15 Bonus) | $99.75 |
| 200 Bids (+40 Bonus) | $199.75 |
| 400 Bids (+100 Bonus!) | $399.75 |
As you can see, you pay whatever the auction closes at plus the bid, which is $1.00. They do auction off bid packages as well. I am relatively new to this site but I will be paying close to this site more in the near future.
Property Room is another auction site. This site was founded by police offers, they sell items that were confiscated, and items that companies give them to sell. I have bought numerous sports memorabilia items from them. They have just about anything you want up for auction here. Items that get a lot of attention are their designer handbags. The hand bags that I saw go for cheap was Coach, Gucci, Dooney and Burke, to name a few. One thing I have to tell you is their shipping price. To me, the shipping price seems outrageous at times but they claim to put insurance on each package. In order to start buying items you need to register for an account and keep a credit or bankcard on file for the purchases. Items come relatively fast, usually within five days.
uBid is similar to Property Room but their selection is not as vast. I usually found items on uBid that I couldn’t find on Property Room. The biggest drawback is their shipping. uBid’s shipping is even higher than Property Room’s. You have to register the same way you do on Property Room to start bidding.
If you are looking to get items at a discounted price, these sites are where to go. A person could literally make a living buying items from these sites and then flip them at a decent profit. I made a decent profit off the items I sold and I think everyone else could too.
